Who Is Watching You Work?

I have to admit that in the past I have been able to do research and post on my blog while working at my stay at home job. For the past couple of months it has been extremely busy. I guess it has to do with the employees of the company that I take overflow calls for are all on vacation. The back to back calls have been slightly annoying compared to the many months before when the calls were spaced giving me lots of time on my hands and the opportunity to research jobs for this blog.

So I had to half laugh and half feel guilty when I read Work at Home? Your Employer May Be Watching an article by Sue Shellenbarger.

In the article she talks about the trend of telecommuting employers using tactics to make sure their employees are being productive. Going as far as using software that takes pictures of your desktop to see if you are surfing the net on company time, even counting keystrokes to make sure your not emailing your best friend. And there are even companies that require the use of a web cam so they can make sure you're not sipping coffee or folding your laundry.

About all I can say is, "Wow! Big brother is watching". I guess I am expected to sit quietly, legs crossed, back straight, fingertips lightly poised above my keyboard and wait in anticipation of that next call sent my way. Hmmmm, that doesn't sound at all like me and I sure hope the company that I am employed with does not feel it has to treat me like a child and start any of those practices. Of course they might already be doing that with out my knowledge. You just never know.
