I just like to torture myself with all of the work I seem to put on myself, but I signed up today for oDesk. I had been checking them out for several weeks and finally decided that I might as well build up a freelancing business. To tell you the truth I am a little bit concerned about my work at home job with West at Home. Though everything is fine right now, you never know when the company I am assigned to might pull their account and I would hate to be out of work.
So I decided to give oDesk a try. They seem like a very organized and professional company. I did a lot of research and found that if you do certain things like make a really good profile page and test for your skills (they provide free testing) it helps in getting hired for jobs. The advice I read said to start with a job that is really simple, even if it doesn't pay much, and that will be your first feedback so that you will get better paying jobs to slowly build up your freelance business.
So, as I find the time, I will start doing my testing and see how it goes. If you think this is something you might want to try you can read about it and sign up. You can be located in any country. This is an affiliate link for The On Demand Global Workforce - oDesk. So if you want to you can sign up through me.

I have looked at Odesk, but then I didn't do much else. Thanks for reminding me to go back, and look at it more.
I'm a freelancer so I will definitely check it out. Thank you for sharing!
Hmmm, interesting. Thanks for sharing this work at home opportunity. Good luck on your freelancing business!
Thanks for the info, Laura!
Have a great weekend.
Thank you for sharing this site! Generally I find your blog very helpful! Thank you! :)
i've actually signed up a month ago and i've been receiving emails regarding opportunities since then. just that i never took any opps yet.they have loads of tasks actually.u just need to choose those that would pay you fairly for your efforts.i guess i'm just not into freelancing that's why i never took an effort to apply in any of the jobs available.but i know a few bloggers who are doing well at ODesk.
I'd love to hear more about your odesk experience. I've asked someone to write a guest post about it but not sure when she will get to it. Once you get acquainted with the site let me know what you think of it. I've joined but it freaks me out with the "them watching you" thing.
Katy, I will let you know how it goes. I am so busy that I have not even been able to do the first test yet. Hopefully soon.
thanks for the link. i have signed up and am getting acquainted with the site. i have taken a few tests but need to start filling out my profile. i also find your blog very informative and want you to know that i appreciate the research you do to post your findings. ;)
Thanks PJ, I hope you do well. Keep me informed on how it goes for you.
good luck on your freelancing job at O'Desk. I know one blogger who really endorses this and she is doing good I believe at O Desk.
Good luck with ODesk. I looked at them before but never got around to filling out the different tests.
I will go take another look =)
Hi Laura,
Good luck on your Odesk adventure! :)
I also know someone who got some good deals with Odesk and she always shares us tips on her blog.
I would like to hear how it goes on your end. Just like what Katy said, I just don't feel comfortable with the monitoring thing that they have, especially for writers who really need some motivation before they can write their piece. :)
